How This New Edition Came to Life

When I first published my black and white baking cookbook in 2022, I thought the hard work was done. That first edition was a labor of love filled with German treats and family traditions passed down from my mutti. She would be so proud to know that her cherished recipes are now being baked and loved all around the world.

Readers embraced those recipes right away. They wrote to share memories, new family favorites, and even photos of flour-dusted countertops. But there was one very consistent piece of feedback on Amazon. You wanted full color. And honestly, I did too. A perfectly glazed stollen or a tray of zimtsterne deserves to look as irresistible on the page as it does coming out of the oven.

So I set out to upgrade the book in a way that home bakers would truly appreciate. We compared printers, tested formats, and evaluated every tiny detail. Some of the improvements include:

  • Spiral binding so the book stays open all by itself
  • A plastic coil which will not mark or scratch your counters like metal can
  • Lay-flat pages for easy reading while your hands stay messy
  • Vibrant full color photos for every recipe
  • Printed on premium paper for a more durable feel

Because Christmas is the heart of German baking, I did not stop at color. This new edition has 25% more recipes, most of them Christmas favorites. From buttery plätzchen to rich fruit-filled classics, this version celebrates the season when our ovens work the hardest.

This project took dedication and creativity from the whole family.

  • My son Mike managed the full design and production process, making sure the book is both beautiful and practical.
  • His wife Sylvie edited and proofed every detail with the kind of care that makes each recipe easy to follow and mistake-free.
  • My son Eran was the first to receive each proof copy because he is closest to our new printer. He checked print quality, photographed page samples, and spent many video chats with us across time zones to perfect the look and feel before approval.

We also expanded what the book can do in your kitchen. Alongside the spiral bound version, we created a special new edition with extra hands-on features designed to make this a baking companion that lasts for years.

It includes blank recipe cards to add your own family favorites, memory prompts, bookmarks for tracking adjustments and notes, and coloring pages with fun baking quotes to inspire you while the dough rises.

Even the final decision between metal or plastic spiral binding involved a real kitchen test. Plastic won for good reason. Pages do not snag. It sits flat. And it will not mark or scratch your countertops. Exactly what bakers need.

Looking back, this journey has been filled with decisions about printing and production instead of powdered sugar. But seeing the expanded editions with full color, better paper, more Christmas recipes, and including a spiral bound format designed for bakers made every step worthwhile.

Thank you for being part of this adventure! The recipes still come straight from the heart of my own family kitchen. Now they are presented in a way that honors the joy and tradition they represent. I cannot wait for you to turn these pages and start baking new memories!

The expanded editions of MORE Baking Just Like Oma are about to launch soon. I am excited to share them with you! Keep watch for the release. It's almost time to preheat the oven... :)
